Bonnell is an Austin-based startup that burst into the scene in early 2025 with a couple of very capable e-bike models. Since then, it has kept the media warm with its intentions of getting into the proper e-motocross market. The 805 and 902 motocrossers are expected to ship sometime in 2026, but Bonnell had both on display during the recently concluded American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) in Anaheim, California.
The unveiling for dealers and prospects was important, as this was the first time the company had actual motorcycles on display, even though they had announced the commencement of prototype testing in mid-December. California is strategic as it’s the biggest motocross market in the US, and likely the biggest market globally. Not to mention, it’s next door to Austin, TX.
The 805 and 902 are capable motocrossers, the 805 being lighter and more agile. Here, lighter and agile are relative terms, as even the 805 packs a 42kW peak output motor. This would make the machine hit a 128 kph top speed. The standard battery on offer is 3.9 kWh, though one can also get a 4.7 kWh pack as an aftermarket option. With the 3.9 kWh option, the bike weighs just 96 kg.

Meanwhile, the 902 is a very serious motocrosser. At 65 kW peak output, this carries the most powerful motor ever for an e-motocrosser. Bonnell puts the top speed at 144 kph. There are two battery options – 5.6 kWh as standard and a 6.7 kWh as an aftermarket option. One can also opt for a 4.7 kWh pack that would drop the weight by 7 kg, making this even more entertaining.
