InsightEV is dedicated to enhancing the quality of discourse in the electric mobility industry. An industry and a means of transport that are supposed to mobilize billions of people in the future cannot rely on shallow coverage. The industry needs to be discussed and disseminated seriously.

But while we go about our job and hope that you follow us, what are the people, newsletters, websites, and discussion boards that we follow to stay abreast of things? Here is a comprehensive list of resources and tools that helped us in 2025, and I strongly recommend them for your list in 2026.

Note that none of the below is an affiliate link. We are not in that business…yet.

InsightEV VoltShift: Before starting with this, and just in case you have not subscribed to our free newsletter yet, I would like to point you to InsightEV’s VoltShift. We have a 3-4 days per week cadence for now. At times, what we write in the newsletter is over and above what gets published on InsightEV.

Mobility Rising: A big shoutout to Brian Ambani and the team at Mobility Rising. The most comprehensive and regular coverage of the African e-mobility scene. We have been reading Mobility Rising for a few months now, and their dedication to covering Africa is laudable. A must-read if Africa is what interests you.

Experiences with EVs: Priyans Murarka and his team produce Experiences with EVs, a resource dedicated to the Indian charging infrastructure industry. For the industry, it is a comprehensive database of charging infrastructure and much more, presented in a succinct, readable manner. They are present on Substack but also have premium offerings of their database and reports.

This Week in Urban Mobility: Sieghart Michielsen is the Director of International at Niu and one of the foremost authorities on mobility in Europe. He publishes a personal newsletter on LinkedIn every week. It is a must-read for anyone following light-vehicle mobility across the world, and especially in Europe.

While we are here, don’t miss InsightEV’s interview with Sieghart. He talks extensively about Niu’s change in direction and a turn to profitability.

We are Creating a Foundation for the Future… – InsightEV
Sieghart Michielsen, the Director of International at Niu Technologies, talks about Niu's future plans for international markets, the speed of evolution

Reilly Brennan’s Future of Transportation (FoT) newsletter: Riley Brennan of Trucks.VC publishes a weekly newsletter every Sunday evening. The crisp newsletter is a compendium of transactions, news, and opinion about what’s happening in transportation. Billy Blaustein of Vammo pointed this out to me, and to our joy, Reilly had already picked up something from InsightEV even before we became readers of the newsletter.

Mega China Motor: When it comes to the Chinese two-wheeler market, there are not too many English-language sources. Mega Chinamotor does a competent job of filling the gap. They are native Chinese, so pardon the quality of English. As an English-language source on the Chinese market, there is nothing that comes close to them.

Buck City Biker: Motorcycle news is not their core business; they are actually an electric motorcycle shop. However, the weekly newsletter is super useful and readable. Don’t miss their three-part interview with Jay Giraud, the erstwhile CEO of Damon

On the subject of Jay Giraud, don’t miss our interviews with him. This one is after Damon…

Jay Giraud on the Importance of Passion-Driven Halo Brands in Electric Motorcycles – InsightEV
While Damon has not worked yet, ex-CEO Jay Giraud brings a lot of conviction on the importance of halo brands in electric motorcycles.

…and here is one while at Damon…

Damon’s Recipe for Market Disruption – InsightEV
The power vs weight equation is why electric motorcycles are still relative under-performers when it comes to taking on ICE superbikes.

Glenn Mercer on Substack: I have had the privilege of knowing Glenn Mercer for nearly two decades now. The erstwhile Partner (automotive) at McKinsey has a wicked sense of humour and a childlike enthusiasm when it comes to cars and data. He pens car Charts, a substack newsletter, picking out interesting datapoints from the car industry. And while InsightEV does not cover the car industry, my experience at IHS-Markit (S&P Global Mobility, I guess you know this bunch) means my eyes are never closed to the sector.

Ather Energy’s Substack: What is better than an engineering-focused E2W manufacturer? One who wants to discuss and share engineering knowledge. Ather has an excellent Substack where they regularly talk about technology, not just what they have developed, but what the industry has been recently looking at. This Substack is run through the CTO’s (Swapnil Jain) office and is a must-read for startups and industry participants, even though some of you may be Ather’s rivals.

While there, don’t miss their recent excellent series on rare earths (and why we may be barking up the wrong tree with Ferrite motors).

Techcrunch Mobility: Very US and Silicon Valley-focused, but useful news on what the rest of the world would be digesting a decade from now.

The Pack: Guy Salens runs thepack.news and has been in the industry longer than most. While The Pack is mostly a press release aggregator, their comprehensive coverage means they miss very little.

I am sure that we are missing a few more, and apologies for that. RideApart and Visordown always do a good job. So does Motorrad. And France-based Cleanrider is an excellent resource. Micah Toll of Electrek is always a good voice in the industry.

Daily Functioning

These are some of the tools we use to run InsightEV. I am not adding links as these are multi-billion-dollar corporations that don’t need the publicity from a newsletter with 11,000 subscribers.

For our day-to-day functioning, we use Google Sheets for databasing with some Excel sprinkled in. Dropbox, Notion, and Google Docs run our article writing. Google Slides and Keynote handle slides. Canva edits some images, and we are not very good at it.

We stay away from ChatGPT or any AI tools for writing purposes. This newsletter and the InsightEV website are entirely fueled by hard work and caffeine.

InsightEV is designed and hosted on WordPress using a custom theme, the VoltShift newsletter is sent through Kit, and we only use LinkedIn for now as our social media outreach. For selling our research reports, we use WooCommerce and Stripe.

Reports – InsightEV
Large storms always start with small disturbances. All we need is for a few small wind turbulences to align, and they turn into havoc pretty quickly. The same is the case with bushfires. All it takes is a careless spark, followed by inflammable material

An interesting tool we have recently started using is Wispr Flow. This is a dictation tool that embeds itself in every app and software where you would need to type. It’s miles ahead of native dictation on Apple. Theoretically, it can help me type out a 2500-word analysis in 10 minutes, if I have a clear head.

That’s easier said than done.
