Greetings! This is your editor. You can find my LinkedIn profile here.
As I write this, InsightEV is 97 posts and 44 weeks old. Thank you, dear reader, for making us a preferred source for analyzing the E2W and L-category vehicle industry. We are a research source for people who drive the industry - manufacturers, suppliers, investors, consultants, and analysts.
InsightEV Readership Analysis
We started in May 2024 as a Substack newsletter and moved to the Ghost platform a few weeks back. Traction has been steady, and we now have more than 11,000 active readers. When we say active, we mean an open rate of more than 50%.

We did a deep-dive into our readership and found that 54% of you are Investors, and another 17% are with Financial Institutions (FIs).

Nearly 26% of the readers are from the industry, split into manufacturers, suppliers and technology developers, and battery tech.
Readership: Geographic Spread
The geographic spread is diverse, with the USA leading, followed by the Netherlands, Ireland, the UK, India, Canada, and Singapore, in that order. The below is taken from our Google Analytics dashboard.

A work email is overwhelmingly preferred when consuming InsightEV.

We also sifted through our email box to check how many readers we directly interact with. The number was more than 12%. That's a lot and not a lot, whichever way we look at it.

We find the glass half empty and would strive to talk to more of you. So, here's an open call:
Give us a shout out if you are an industry participant and would like to talk to us about opportunities, forecasting the future, or would like to introduce your investees to us.
Introducing ALLSPARK: Our Deep Dive into Industry Participants
In the coming fortnight, we will introduce ALLSPARK, where you can find deep dive profiles of more than 200 industry participants we monitor. Unlike a static pdf report that provides limited knowledge once a year, the ALLSPARK research hub would be updated and kept abreast of changes daily.
Like the Cybertronian cube that we have named it after, the ALLSPARK is the source of all knowledge and the energy that powers InsightEV. When you access the knowledge base, you gain in-depth knowledge about 200+ (and growing) industry participants and 900+ products.
We will make ALLSPARK live within the next fortnight. Watch for it to appear in the Header Menu on the top right. For now, here is a screenshot of how it would look.

Increasing coverage
We are improving the publishing frequency and expanding our coverage to include more on technology, suppliers, and ride sharing. Watch as things flow into the discourse steadily.
Comments are on!
We realise that our readers have much to share, and starting this week, we have enabled comments on every post.
Going Premium.
We started InsightEV as the content front-end for a research and advisory hub. We run the website without any advertisements or sponsorships, and it is a conscious decision to prioritise the reader experience. As we expand our coverage and remain committed to quality, we will go Premium starting this coming Monday.
From next week, some of the most extensive analyses on InsightEV will be behind a paywall. We strive to keep at least half the content free for everyone, though you would need a free account to read that.
Also behind the paywall is ALLSPARK, the eat-all-you-can knowledge base of the global mobility industry.
The Premium Membership to InsightEV is priced at USD 99/year. We also have a monthly option at USD 12/month. The annual membership works out more cost-effective. Everyone gets a 15-day free trial with no obligations.
InsightEV is hosted through Ghost and uses Stripe to process payments. We are a UK-registered company. Email us if you want to onboard multiple users through a corporate subscription.
Meanwhile, this week: The Japanese-Four think Electric is just an Option.
While many in the world are entirely committing to EVs, and it is every startup's ambition to redefine mobility with a Chinese-made electric scooter, the Japanese are working on everything - ICE, supercharged ICE, electric-supercharged ICE, Hybrids, Hydrogen powered, and Electric. This week, we try to find if there is a method to the madness.

Lapa X: The Future Is Here
Losing weight solves many problems, like improving range, acceleration, and top speed. But tubular construction has limits. Lapa wants to redefine the scooter, taking a leaf from Maranello's book by carving it out of carbon fiber. This week, we spoke to the Bangalore-based startup.

The Strange Honda from Wuyang
With looks that only its mom would approve, the Honda WH8000D is a (sort of) electric minibike from Wuyang-Honda, one of the two Honda JVs in China. It's a commuter/cafe racer segment motorcycle in the L3e category with 100kph+ top-speed capability.

Read about the WH8000D and more in our Daily News Impact story.
Felyx is back!
Felyx ride-sharing, now a part of Cooltra group, has resumed operations in Amsterdam, the city where it all started. Felyx was one of the pioneers of electric moped sharing in the Netherlands till a few years back. Its ubiquitous Niu N-Series mopeds can be seen in 17 cities in the Netherlands and two cities in Belgium.

However, as has been the case with the challenging electric moped sharing businesses in Europe, Felyx faced mounting losses. Then, early this year, it lost its operating license in Amsterdam.
Meanwhile, in 2024, Felyx merged with Cooltra. Both brands operate independently by merging operations at the back end. A more than 28,000 electric moped fleet gives the combined Cooltra-Felyx a considerable heft in negotiations with vendors, like moped manufacturer Niu.
With GoSharing, the successor of Felyx in Amsterdam, ceasing operations last month, Felyx has found a back-door entry into Amsterdam. Now, 600 mopeds have been deployed.
That's a wrap for today. This newsletter will be back next Friday. The posts on the website are more frequent.
